Our first full day in Florence included a visit to the Boboli Gardens [above], after walking through the ornate and beautiful Pitti Palace/Galleria Palatina with its vast collection of art (including many frescoed ceilings adorned with nymphs and gods) and rooms decorated in the style of "grand duke." We crossed the famous Ponte Vecchio...
...walked quietly among the dead -- Michelangelo, Machiavelli, Galileo, y'know, the biggies -- in the Basilica de Santa Croce, and toured another great museum, Galleria degli Uffizi, with Botticelli's "The Birth of Venus" and SO much more. Finally, we feasted on good Italian eats again and called it a day. Tomorrow: time to be our own artists at a Tuscan ceramics workshop.
(And if you're wondering about our luggage woes, they've been resolved except for one traveler who is now our super hero with mettle like the gods.)
