Saints in Segovia.

Today, Thursday, we visited Segovia, famous for its acqueduct, the Alcazar and its cochinillo (piglet). We also visited the Escorial, a famous palace where most of the Spanish kings and queens are buried. We enjoyed some cochinillo in one of the best restaurants in Segovia, this included a show of cutting the cochinillo with a plate to show how tender it is. Here are some pics. Now we are ready to enjoy Saturday with families and get back home!

on Wednesday, We met Patrick Daly, Mrs Daly's son who is studying a semster in Madrid. We were happy to see him and share a coffee in plaza mayor and a visit to Prado museum.

Saints in Madrid

Fifth day in Madrid. Today we started at school. Students attended different classes ranging from biology to literature. Mr. Garikes and I had a chance to observe two English immersion classes with first and second graders and then upper grades. After lunch, some students spent the afternoon with their hosts at the movies and other activities. Others joined Mr. Garikes and I in strolling two of the most important museums in Madrid, the Thyssen-Bornemisza and the Reina Sofia. We immersed ourselves in an array of works of art. Picasso, Monet, Van Gogh, Dali, ....
Tomorrow a History teacher from the school volunteered to be our guide for the day. We will visit the Royal Palace, the Prado museum and the Retiro park. In between, we will continue to treat ourselves to some cafe con leches, tapas and of course, LOTS of Spanish!

Toledo

Hola! It's Mollye. We are having a wonderful time here in Madrid. Today, we visited the city of Toledo, the capital of the region of Castilla La Mancha. First, we went on a walking tour of the city where we visited the famous painting by El Greco "Count Orgaz" and we went inside the Catedral de Toledo. After our tour, we had free time where we ate lunch and many of us bought marzipan, a speciality of the city. Also, some students went shopping at "trendy" Spanish stores. Finally, we went on a tour of a sword and jewelry factory, another speciality of the city. Now we are back at school waiting for our Spanish families to pick us up.

Hasta luego!

Day 2 From Madrid

All of the Saints are spending the weekend with their host family.
What a wonderful moment when the students met
for the first time. Everyone had been communicating
with their Spanish host via the wonders of tech-
nology.  Tomorrow we all meet at the school
to compare notes about the weekend.

Prof. Olatunji and I have had a special day. We are
staying right next to the soccer stadium and tonight
Real Madrid hosts Barcelona. We just watched
the Madrid team bus enter the stadium.   A great
start to the week.
