China - Day 2

China - Day 2

From Lilly Cady ‘19: Blog Post
The group started out our day with a visit to the Temple of Heaven, one of Beijing’s iconic historic sites. While we were there we got a taichi lesson on two basic moves: cloud hand and wild horse. It was a peaceful way to start the day and interesting to learn how to use your opponent’s momentum to your advantage. Next we drove to the Hutong district of Beijing and explored the alleyways with our guide before crafting our own personal terrariums in a traditional Beijing style using flower buds and cicada shell. We also were able to fit in some free time on Tian An Men Street before heading to dinner. Peking duck was the main highlight of the meal. Everyone is looking forward to a good night’s sleep and our visit to the Forbidden City tomorrow.

From Julian Mosley ‘21: On the first full day of our trip in Beijing, we left our hotel around 9:00 AM headed towards the Temple of Heaven. We got to walk around for a little bit there, followed by a quick lunch. When lunch ended, we toured Beijing’s Hutong district and did some traditional Chinese arts and crafts (I think it was called ”little monkey people”). Later we went to a shopping district and had some time to explore the area. About an hour and a half later we ate dinner, which was a Chinese dish called Peking Duck (pretty good, too). From there we headed back towards our hotel.
